Dr. Sony Thomas, OD, FAAO
Dr. Sony Thomas grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois. After completing his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois- Chicago (UIC), he earned his doctorate from the prestigious Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois.
Upon graduation, Dr. Thomas moved to Tallahassee, Florida to complete a one-year residency at the Tallahassee Veteran’s Affairs Hospital where he served our nation’s Veterans. After completing his residency, Dr. Thomas stayed on as staff optometrist for another year before moving back to the Chicagoland area to be closer to his family.
In 2018, Dr. Thomas received his fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO). He has special interest in medical optometry managing ocular disease, dry eye syndrome, hard to fit contact lenses, and surgical co-management.
During his free time, Dr. Thomas enjoys traveling, playing basketball, scuba diving, and photography.
Dr. Alin Augustine, OD
Dr. Alin Augustine was raised in Mount Prospect, Illinois and earned her undergraduate degree in biology and psychology with a minor in Art from the University of Illinois- Chicago (UIC). She went on to obtain her Doctorate in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois.
Following her graduation, Dr. Augustine completed her residency at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. After finishing her residency, she worked in New Orleans for an additional year before relocating to the Chicagoland area to be closer to her family.
Dr. Augustine’s areas of expertise include managing ocular disease, dry eye syndrome, myopia control, and pediatrics.
When she’s not in the clinic, Dr. Augustine enjoys traveling, reading, painting, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
Dr. Avjit Shahi, OD, FAAO
Dr. Avjit Shahi earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Loyola University Chicago before obtaining her Doctorate in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. Her clinical training included rotations at the University of Kentucky, the William Chappell Jr. Veteran Outpatient Clinic in Daytona Beach, FL, and the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, where she gained extensive experience in comprehensive eye care.
Following graduation, Dr. Shahi completed a residency in ocular disease at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, where she had the privilege of providing specialized care to Veterans. She has a strong clinical interest in contact lenses and the management of ocular conditions such as glaucoma, dry eye, and diabetic/macular degeneration-related eye diseases.
An Illinois native, Dr. Shahi returned home after residency to continue her career in private practice, where she is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care. She received her Fellowship of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) in 2024.
Outside the clinic, she enjoys traveling, reading, staying active, spending time with family, and indulging in a great cupcake!
